Located in the greater Pittsburgh area, ExOne, a Desktop Metal company, is a global provider of binder jet 3D printers. Our business primarily consists of manufacturing and selling 3D printers and 3D printed parts for our customers.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Developing materials that can be broadly applied to metal 3D printing
• Conducting material characterization and analysis
• Devising testing methods to evaluate specific material properties and performance
• Collaborating to develop printing processes and parameters
• Collaborating to develop sintering processes and parameters
• Collaborating to develop binder/metal powder formulations
• Studying and interpreting the elastic, plastic, and failure behaviors of metals in standard and non-standard mechanical tests
• Studying materials microstructure-properties-performance relationship and optimizing material properties through sintering cycle development
• Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional team, and partners
• Working with an interdisciplinary team to define, write, and execute designs of experiments

Qualifications

• Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
• Able to provide the customer and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• BS in Materials Science, Metallurgy or equivalent with 0-5 years’ experience, MS with 0-3 years’ experience.

Preferred Experience

• Powder metallurgy and sintering process development
• Physical and mechanical metallurgy
• Mechanical testing of metals
• Ferrous and/or nickel alloys powder metallurgy
• Optical and scanning electron microscopy
• Binder/metal powder formulation - for example Metal Injection Molding
• Additive manufacturing
• Fractography and Metallographic interpretation
• High temperature experiments

Physical Requirements

• Able to move within a manufacturing environment and sit for extended periods of time
• Capable of travelling unassisted
• Manual dexterity and manipulation to operate a computer and other peripheral equipment
• Visual acuity to read computer displays, printouts and other drawings
